It is an amazing feeling to read all the posts and comments here. They speak of the power lost and power found through the act of sex and in one's sexuality. In these narratives there is the im/balance of power, the struggle with fear, the confusion about relationships, the longing for true love.

We invite you to share your feelings of discovery, ecstasy, hurt, healing, and empowerment here. These will become a part of the Sisters and Secrets ceremony. Sisters and Secrets is a public ceremony that creates a space within our community to continue to encourage open and fluid thinking around the experience of women’s sexuality.

Sisters and Secrets is a sacred circle, a community project, facilitated by artist and art therapist, Mehdi Naimi. In this community project we open a door to honest explorations and expressions of the unspoken aspects of intimacy.

In dealing with embodied sexuality, the trip to womanhood is ever evolving. For women, the sexual experience is an extreme one of coming into our bodies. It is layered with our family experiences, our socialization, our personalities and histories. There is a rich complexity to the experience of how sexuality manifests, a complexity that is unique and personal to each individual, but which contains threads that can weave into a more universal picture as well. We might experience the very real and animal dialectic of attraction and repulsion in our feelings about, and even in, the moment of having sex; pushing and pulling to come together, wrestling psychically and physically both with ourselves and our partners as our souls move towards an embodied meeting and coming into being.

The physical act of sex has the potential to be the spiritual journey that connects us to our higher selves and to others beyond us. It is through this journey that we discover or lose our potential to be intimate.

In the sharing of our stories, our secrets (anonymously or not) we peel through the layers of owning who we are as a sexual beings and deepen this understanding within our community and in our bedrooms.

The opening performance of Crimson Coast Dance Society’s new season dives deeply into the light and shadow of human sexual experience in the award-winning production “She’s Gone Away” by Toronto choreographer and dancer, Susanna Hood.

The dance performance, held October 2 in the Malaspina Theatre at VIU is the third in a series of Hood’s dance creations about female sexuality with musician Nilan Perera.

Crimson Coast Dance Society, with art therapist Mehdi Naimi, is organizing a public participatory, pre-show art event that collects thematically-relevant stories by people from our own community and weaves them into an art based, public ceremony at Bowen Park Recreation Centre on Thursday, Sept. 30. As well, a post-show panel will be hosted to explore issues of female sexuality that arise from this work. A workshop nurturing creative exploration and personal discovery will be held on Sunday, October 3. This will be open to dancers, actors, teachers, therapists and the general public at any level of experience.
